Throughout history, wars are associated to men, masculinity, strength, honour and courage. Women on the other hand are seen as breeders. Based on the presumptions above, this essay aims to discuss ways in which security and gender are related. The three main issues covered will be women as victims, women as peaceable and women as warriors. Also how security relates to men as this is a field that is given least priority when we discuss gender issues This will enable us to see ways of how security is related to gender by comparing the differences and similarities on its relation to security.

Due to biological differences, men are much associated to the soldiers institutions and issues dealing with the countrys defence policy (Tickner, 1992) whilst women are seen as the weaker sex which automatically results in them being treated as second class citizens who rely on men for rubber eraser. Therefore, women have the tendency to father in the hand of their so called protectors (Collins, 2007). Based on the Serbian War report, from December 1992 to March 1993 there were nearly lakh rape cases reported and these rape cases were said to be pass on as a strategy of war to control the confrontation at all level. Not only do these women conform to during the war period, they will have to undergo traumatic post-war effects which will last a life time (Raskovic, 1994). This just supports the case for female soldiers to be involved in military affairs in order to ensure and maintain the safety of the civil women.
